What Soulfun is

Soulfun is a companion chat service run from Hong Kong, according to its terms of service, which were last updated in August 2023. It offers a library of roughly a dozen pre-built characters and a builder for your own, and the core loop is text chat with optional voice calls and photo requests. An Android app has been on Google Play since December 2023, with an iOS build also listed, though both appear to be updated less often than the web version.

Features

Chat is the strongest element. Independent testers describe replies as fluent, contextual and emotionally varied, and Product Hunt reviewers echo that. The weakness is consistency: several user reports mention mid-conversation resets that change a character’s personality, and a repetition bug that requires clearing chat history.

Voice calls are available and generally rated above average for naturalness, at a metered cost of 10 coins per minute. Video calls are advertised and priced at 20 coins per minute, but three separate 2026 reviews found the button either produces nothing or is, in one reviewer’s words, “just a gimmick”. We treat video as not functional for now.

Images come through in-chat photo requests. Testers report realistic portraits when it works, but frequent defects such as merged limbs and characters whose appearance drifts between images. Users on Trustpilot complain that coins are deducted even when the generation fails.

Memory is not marketed with any specifics. Reviews describe short-term recall as adequate and long-term recall as selective: minor preferences are retained, relationship milestones and earlier storylines often are not. There is no user-editable memory panel that we could find.

Pricing

The subscription terms list one plan, Soulfun Premium at $19.99 per month, auto-renewing, which grants 1,000 coins a month, custom character creation, photo requests and priority access to new features. Coin rates are published: 1 coin per text message, 10 per minute of voice, 20 per minute of video. That means 1,000 coins buys, at most, about 1,000 messages or 100 minutes of voice per month before you need to buy more. Some reviews mention Premium Basic and Premium Plus tiers at other prices; we could not confirm these on the site, so the $19.99 figure is the one shown in the subscription terms in September 2026.

The free tier is a small daily message allowance that reviewers say has been cut back over 2025 and 2026, and Trustpilot users report the free daily coins being removed. Cancelling does not refund fees already charged.

Content policy

This is where Soulfun is least clear. The character library openly features sexual scenarios and the marketing leans adult, yet the terms of service prohibit “pornographic, indecent, lewd” content. Reviewers say NSFW chat exists but is conservative, characters rarely initiate, and explicit imagery is not produced. There is no published page stating what is and is not allowed at each tier. Treat the adult side as limited and undocumented.

Who it is for

Soulfun suits someone who mainly wants text and occasional voice conversation with a customisable character and is prepared to watch a coin balance. It is a poor fit if you want reliable image generation, any video at all, or a fully explicit experience, and the billing and cancellation friction reported by users is a real drawback.
