Verdict
Capable chat and a broad media toolkit at a low annual price, but the Neuron credit system charges on top of Premium for adult messages, photos and videos, and the credit maths is hard to follow.
What works
Cheap annual plan and frequent promo codes Images, five-second ‘Dream Clips’ and voice calls in one place Multiple switchable chat models, including a stronger premium model Clear 18+ rule and a written list of prohibited content
What holds it back
Neurons are charged per romantic message, photo and video even on Premium Coins and Neurons coexist with no published exchange rate Refunds are narrow; activated subscriptions are generally non-refundable
What Joi AI is
Joi AI is a browser-based companion platform run by Novi Limited (Cyprus) for non-US users and Lanoto Solutions Inc. (New York) for US users. The official address is joi.ai; a sister domain, joi.com, carries the adult tier, and one account works on both. Note that a separately published mobile app called ‘Joi – AI Companion’ by another developer is unrelated. Joi’s catalogue mixes original characters, anime characters and AI versions of real content creators who have licensed their likeness.
Features
Text chat is the core, with six switchable language models; the ‘Saturn 7.0’ model is Premium-only and is the one reviewers rate highest for staying in character. Each character keeps memory across sessions and Joi advertises an ‘8,000-message’ memory window, which we could not test. Media covers image generation, ‘Dream Clips’ (five-second video), voice calls and a custom character builder. An August 2026 audit found three-for-three fact recall in short sessions and an immediate stop when the tester asked the roleplay to end, which is a good sign for controllability.
Pricing
The checkout in August 2026 showed Premium at $13.99 for one month, $20.99 for three months and $47.99 for twelve months; promo codes (SPICY70, HELLO50) regularly cut the longer plans. Premium includes a monthly media allowance (reviewers cite roughly 50 images and 5 Dream Clips) and unlocks voice and the premium model.
The catch is Neurons, a credit currency defined in the terms. Adult content that is not part of the subscription is charged per item: a romantic message costs 4 Neurons, a photo up to 120 and a video up to 1,900 depending on theme. Packs run from 500 Neurons ($9.99) to 10,000 ($99.99); extra custom characters cost 1,000 Neurons each and voice calls about 2,000 per five minutes. Premium cards also grant ‘Coins’, and no first-party conversion between Coins and Neurons is published. The free tier gives limited chat on basic models, a handful of free images and a small Neuron balance, with no NSFW, voice or video.
Content policy
The terms are clear: users must be 18+, and the platform bans sexual content involving minors, non-consensual intimate imagery and deepfakes, depictions of real identifiable people without consent, hateful and terrorist material. Adult content between consenting adult characters is allowed on the joi.com tier. Moderation is automated with human review in ‘difficult or suspicious’ cases. Age is self-declared at the gate.
Who it is for
Joi suits people who want a full media toolkit and are happy with an annual plan, provided they read the Neuron price list first and budget for it. Heavy users of adult photos and clips will find Premium alone is not the full price. If you want one flat fee with no credits, look elsewhere.
Research basis: desk research from the official site and public user reports, September 2026.
How to cancel Joi AI
Joi AI is billed on the web, not through the app stores.
Sign in at joi.ai (or joi.com), open your account menu and go to My Subscriptions.
Select the Premium plan and choose Cancel; do this before the renewal date. Access runs until the end of the paid period.
Any separate ‘Bot Subscription’ is not cancelled automatically; cancel it in the same screen.
The terms state that partial periods are not refunded and that activated subscriptions are generally non-refundable; refunds are considered for proven card fraud, accidental Neuron purchases or company-initiated termination.
