Verdict

A long-running realistic and anime generator with solid editing, face swap and 15-second video. Chat is an afterthought, the free tier is blurred, adult rules contradict the product, and refunds are near impossible.

What SoulGen is

SoulGen is an AI image and video generator with a companion chat layer, operated by Synapse AI Limited, a company incorporated in Hong Kong. It has been around since 2023 and built its name as a generator of realistic and anime “AI girls” from text prompts and tags. In 2026 the public face of the site has changed: the homepage now sells an “all-in-one AI video generator with motion, sound, and talking characters”, and the menus lead with image-to-video, text-to-video, video editing and image editing tools. Underneath, the character generator is still the core, and the product still behaves like an adult generator: the prompt tag suggestions served by the site include a long list of explicit terms, and removing the blur from outputs is a paid benefit. The terms of service, meanwhile, ban pornographic content. That three-way split between marketing, product and terms is the key fact about SoulGen.

Chat and roleplay

Chat is called Soul Chat (or SoulChat). It offers a gallery of ready-made characters, most of them women with a job title and a flirtatious one-line premise, and lets you create your own “Soulmate” for 10 credits. Text messages cost 0.2 credits each, images generated inside a chat cost 2 credits, and voice calls cost 1 credit a minute. The Pro benefits list “unlimited roleplay” and “unlimited messages”, which conflicts with the per-message credit price on the same pricing page; how the two interact is not explained. SoulGen does not name the language model behind the chat or publish any detail about personas, scenario settings or group chat. Third-party reviewers describe the chat as a secondary layer to the generator rather than the main attraction, and that matches how little the site says about it.

The character gallery is at least maintained. Featured characters are added every week or two, judging by the upload dates on their images, which run from June to mid-September 2026, and they sit alongside older stock characters such as a bartender, a personal trainer and a café maid. All are adult women. There is no visible male or gay catalogue, and no community feed of user-made characters of the kind Darlink or SpicyChat run, so variety depends on what SoulGen itself publishes and on what you create.

Memory

SoulGen publishes nothing about chat memory: no context length, no memory bank, no notes or pinned facts. One March 2026 review describes building a “persistent soulmate character across sessions”, which suggests your character’s profile and chat history are kept, but there is no evidence of a long-term memory system of the kind Kindroid or Nomi document. Separately, the privacy policy says generated images and the prompts behind them are stored for only seven days unless you publish them, and that credit history is kept for 90 days. The “Lifetime save” Pro benefit suggests paid users can keep creations longer, but the policy does not say so.

Models and technology

SoulGen names its own model lines rather than third-party models. For video, the pricing page lists SoulGen 3.0 (the newest, up to 15 seconds a generation and described as best for multi-pose sequences), SoulGen 2.0, and two SoulOmni 2.0 variants that output 720p or 1080p. Image editing runs on SoulGen 2.0, SoulOmni and SoulOmni Pro, with 2K output on the latter two. The about page only says the service uses “advanced deep learning models and neural networks”. Older third-party coverage describes a large library of style add-ons tuned for adult rendering; SoulGen does not document what its models are built on.

Images, video and voice

This is where SoulGen is strongest. The character generator has “Real”, “Anime” and “DreamTwin” modes. A “Looks Like” option lets you upload a reference photo so the character takes on that face, at 2 credits an image instead of 1, and the site markets it as a way to “create portrait of someone lookalike”. Other tools cover human modelling (3 credits), smart and classic editing (3 to 8 credits), outpainting, face swap and a video face swap. Video can be made from an image, from text, from a reference video, or by editing an existing clip, with optional generated sound and lip-synced speech. Prices run from 10 credits per 5 seconds on SoulGen 2.0 to 40 credits per 5 seconds for 1080p on SoulOmni 2.0 Turbo, plus 2 credits per 5 seconds for audio.

A March 2026 review found realistic portraits sharp with improved hands, outpainting clean and face swap consistent, while noting the style range is limited to realistic and anime and that video is better for short looping clips than for narrative scenes. Voice exists only as calls inside Soul Chat, metered by the minute.

Beyond chat: what else it does

SoulGen is mainly a toolbox: generator, editor, outpainter, face swap, video tools and an API centre aimed at developers (the documentation did not load when checked). The homepage FAQ says commercial use of generated videos is allowed if the content is lawful and does not infringe others’ rights. The object remover’s own page description says it can erase “watermarks, clothing, text” from photos. Combined with the lookalike upload and face swap tools, that is a capability set that can be misused against real people, and the terms do not address it directly beyond a general ban on content that invades privacy or publicity rights.

The free tier, honestly

There is a free trial, but it is thin. Third-party reviews report about 1 credit a day for free accounts, with watermarked and blurred output; the Pro benefits list confirms that removing blur and watermarks, the priority queue and multitasking are paid features. At 1 credit an image and 10 or more credits per short video, the free allowance is enough to try the interface, not to judge the quality you would be paying for. The terms are blunt about this: “If you just want to make a test, use the free version.”

Platforms and apps

SoulGen is a web app that can be installed as a progressive web app from the browser. There is no SoulGen app in the Apple App Store as of October 2026. A third-party directory reports that an earlier Android app was removed from Google Play in October 2023. The checkout code offers card payment, several crypto routes (Coinbase, direct crypto, USDC on the Base network, and PayPal or Venmo converted to crypto), and an option to pay inside an iOS or Android app whose name is filled in at checkout and then unlock Pro on the website. That last route was not tested.

Support, cancellation and refunds

Support is by email (the site uses addresses on both its .ai and .net domains), a Google feedback form and Discord. The pricing page says the subscription auto-renews and can be cancelled at any time. The terms say you can cancel in your PayPal account or by sending a request through the feedback form while logged in. Refunds are the harshest in this group. The return policy offers a refund of your latest payment within 14 days only if you have not used any credits or created any images since paying. The terms go further: create one image and request a refund, and “a dispute will be launch” after which you will be “blocked definitively” from the site. Sale items, which include discounted first purchases, are not refundable at all.

Who it is for

SoulGen suits adults who mainly want a capable realistic and anime image and short video generator with editing tools, and who see chat as a bonus. It is a poor fit for anyone who wants a companion with memory, clear written rules on adult content, or any chance of a refund. The lookalike and clothing-removal features mean you should never upload a photo of a real person who has not agreed to it. If you pay, use the monthly plan first, and cancel through PayPal or the feedback form well before renewal.

100 Pro credits a month go a long way for still images (up to 100 basic characters) but not for video. A single 15-second SoulGen 3.0 clip with sound costs 51 credits, so Pro covers about one such clip a week. Ten 10-second 1080p SoulOmni Turbo clips a month would need 800 credits, eight times the allowance.

Plan prices were not shown on the logged-out pricing page when checked; the figures above come from a March 2026 review. The pricing page advertises “up to 42% off for first purchase”, so expect renewals at the full price.

Safety, privacy and content policy

What the terms allow and ban

The terms (revised March 2026, Hong Kong law) ban content that is “pornographic, indecent, lewd”, content that invades privacy or publicity rights, and anything that may harm or exploit children. The product nonetheless serves explicit prompt tags, sells blur removal, and lets you base a character on an uploaded photo of a real face.

Age checks

None beyond self-declaration. The terms do not set 18 as a minimum; they say users under the legal age should use the service under a parent’s supervision. The privacy policy says the service is not intended for under-18s. No age verification is described.

Data and privacy

Unpublished creations and prompts are kept for seven days, then deleted automatically. The terms say your content is not used for model training. Data is held in Hong Kong and may be transferred abroad; GDPR rights are listed. Firebase Crashlytics and Google sign-in are named third parties. Account deletion is self-serve.

History

No breach or regulator action was found. A third-party directory reports an earlier Android app was removed from Google Play in October 2023. Trustpilot shows 2.8 from only three reviews.

Where marketing and terms disagree

Marketing is now safe-for-work, the product is explicit, and the terms ban pornography. The lookalike upload and an object remover that lists clothing among things it erases are not addressed by any specific rule.

How to cancel SoulGen

If you subscribed with PayPal, open PayPal, go to Settings, Payments, Manage automatic payments, select SoulGen and cancel. For card or other payments, log in to SoulGen and send a cancellation request through the feedback form linked in the footer, or email support, and keep the reply. If you paid inside a mobile app, cancel in the App Store or Google Play subscriptions screen. Pro stays active to the end of the period. A refund is possible only within 14 days and only if you have used no credits and created no images since the payment; discounted purchases are not refunded.

Questions people ask

Is SoulGen free?

Only as a trial. Free accounts reportedly get about 1 credit a day with blurred, watermarked output. Pro costs $12.99 a month or about $7.58 a month billed yearly, as reported.

Does SoulGen allow NSFW?

In practice the generator accepts explicit prompts and Pro removes the blur, but the terms ban pornographic content and the homepage no longer mentions adult content. The written rules and the product do not match.

Is SoulGen safe?

No breach has been reported and creations are deleted after seven days unless published. The risks are a refund policy that threatens a permanent ban, no age verification, and lookalike and clothing-removal tools that can be misused against real people.

How do I cancel SoulGen?

If you paid through PayPal, cancel the automatic payment in your PayPal account. Otherwise log in and send a cancellation request through the feedback form, or email support, and keep the confirmation.

What is SoulGen’s refund policy?

A refund within 14 days only if you have not used any credits or made any image since paying. Discounted purchases are excluded, and the terms warn that disputing a charge after creating an image leads to a permanent block.

Does SoulGen have an app?

Not in the App Store as of October 2026. It is a web app that can be installed from the browser; an earlier Android app was reportedly removed from Google Play in 2023.

Can SoulGen make videos?

Yes. Image-to-video, text-to-video, reference video, video extension and video editing, from 10 credits per 5 seconds, with optional sound and lip sync. SoulGen 3.0 makes clips of up to 15 seconds per generation.

Who owns SoulGen?

The about page names Synapse AI Limited, incorporated in Hong Kong. The terms are governed by Hong Kong law with disputes heard in Hong Kong courts.

Is SoulGen down right now?

Live result from our monitor, which loads the public homepage every 15 minutes from a server in Europe. If the site is up but the app misbehaves after login, that is an in-app problem the check cannot see.
