What Candy AI is

Candy AI (candy.ai) is an adult-oriented AI companion service operated by EverAI Limited, a company registered in Malta (Malta Business Registry C107181, with a registered address in Santa Venera). The product launched in 2023 and has since become one of the most heavily advertised names in the category. It is a web application: there is no native iOS or Android app, and the site steers mobile users towards a “add to home screen” progressive web app instead. Candy sits at the “everything under one roof” end of the market. Text chat, voice messages and calls, image generation, short video and a guided Story Mode are all in the same interface, which is a large part of its appeal and also the root of most complaints about cost.

Chat and roleplay

The core experience is one-to-one chat with a pre-built or user-created character. Characters carry a personality profile, a backstory and a set of visual attributes, and the model plays the role with few content restrictions inside the adult boundaries set by the terms. Candy does not publish which underlying language model it uses; reviewers in 2026 describe the writing as fluent, quick to pick up tone, and strong at short-turn romantic and explicit roleplay, with the usual weaknesses of the genre: a tendency towards repetition over long sessions and a habit of drifting back to a generic “companion” voice if the character card is thin. Story Mode, added in 2026, layers a scene-by-scene narrative on top of the chat and generates matching images as the story progresses; it is included in the paid plan, but the images it produces still consume tokens. Voice replies and voice calls are available on paid plans, again metered by tokens.

Memory

Candy advertises “memory” as a feature, and short-term recall within a session is generally fine. Long-term recall is the weak point. The most consistent theme in public user reports through 2026, including from paying subscribers, is that the companion forgets names, agreed facts or previous scenes after a few days, or reverts to default behaviour mid-conversation. Candy has not published a context length or a description of how persistent memory is stored, so it is not possible to say from the outside whether this is a small context window, a summarisation step that loses detail, or both. Users who want dependable continuity tend to keep their own notes in the character description. Our memory score reflects that gap between the marketing claim and the reported experience.

Models and technology

Candy AI does not name any of the models behind its chat, image, video or voice features. The site and help centre talk only about ‘AI’, and the parent company, EverAI, describes a proprietary moderation layer it calls EverGuard rather than a chat model. Third-party reviewers assume a proprietary fine-tune of an open-weight language model; that is a reasonable guess, not a disclosure.

The one label Candy uses in public is ‘V2’. Selected characters carry a V2 badge, and since mid-2026 every character made with Create My AI is generated on the V2 engine, which the help centre says gives better realism and consistency but is limited to Caucasian, Asian and Latina presets. The underlying diffusion model is not identified.

Video is likewise unnamed. The help centre is clear that Candy does not generate video from scratch: a suitable generated image is converted into a short animated clip, and reviewers quote 12 tokens for a five-second clip and roughly 80 tokens for a 55-second one. The ‘Live Action’ scenes on selected characters appear to be pre-rendered sequences unlocked through play rather than free-form generation.

Voice, both messages and the beta ‘live audio’ calls, uses an undisclosed text-to-speech system with nine preset voices; a single review attributes it to ElevenLabs, which Candy has not confirmed. There is no model picker, no context-size figure and no API, so the honest summary is that Candy publishes tier names and token prices, not model names.

Images, video and voice

This is where Candy earns its media score. Image generation is available in realistic and anime styles, tied to the character’s stored appearance so that repeat generations stay recognisably the same person. Live Action video, launched in late 2025 and expanded in February 2026 to clips of up to 120 seconds, animates the companion in short scenes; it is the longest video output offered by any of the mainstream companion apps we track. Voice comes in several preset options and works both as voice notes and as calls. The catch is uniform: every image, every minute of voice and every second of video draws down tokens that are not included in the subscription in meaningful quantity. Candy does not publish a per-item token price on its pricing page; third-party breakdowns in 2026 put a standard image at roughly four tokens and a 100-token pack at $9.99, with video reported at anything from a dozen tokens per clip to 15–20 tokens per minute. Those figures should be read as “as reported in September 2026”, not as official rates. Reports of anatomical errors in images and occasional failed generations that still cost tokens are common enough to mention.

Beyond chat: what else it does

Candy AI has grown from a chat-and-selfies app into something closer to a short-video service with a companion attached. What is documented, and what it costs, is as follows.

• Character builder: style, ethnicity, body, hair, personality, voice and relationship type; one free character, unlimited V2 characters on Premium. Custom characters can be switched permanently into a Roleplay Mode.

• Images in chat: a ‘show me’ request produces a picture from the current context; about 4 tokens each, with a toggle to stop unsolicited images. Free accounts get one.

• Image-to-video: any suitable generated image can be animated into a 5- or 55-second clip for 12 or about 80 tokens.

• Live Action (beta) and Interactive Stories: selected characters offer scripted, XP-gated video scenes such as ‘Neon Run’; Premium Plus only.

• Candy Shorts and Series: a scrolling feed of pre-produced cinematic shorts with multi-episode series for named companions; first episodes free, later ones unlocked with tokens.

• Voice: voice notes plus beta live audio calls at roughly 3 tokens a minute. No video calls are documented.

• Memory and personas: Premium Plus adds 20 memory slots, user personas, chat customisation and up to 5 clone chats.

• Private content packs: paid 18+ image and video bundles per character, 100–400 tokens.

• Referrals and affiliates: 200 tokens per referred subscriber, and a 40% revenue-share affiliate programme run through CrakRevenue.

• Platform: no native apps; a progressive web app with notifications, a French-language version and a Discord server.

There is no group chat, no lorebook or world-info system, no API or proxy access, and no AR, VR or SMS features. Almost everything beyond plain text sits behind Premium and draws on the shared 100-token (330 on Premium Plus) monthly allowance.

The free tier, honestly

There is no free plan. Candy offers a trial: a limited number of text messages and, as reported, one or two sample images before the paywall appears. The trial is enough to see the interface and the character roster, not enough to judge memory or video. Once the trial is used up, chat itself requires a subscription, and media requires tokens on top of that. Anyone reading “free AI girlfriend” in an advert should understand that the free part lasts a matter of minutes.

Platforms and apps

Candy is browser-only. It works on desktop and mobile browsers and can be pinned to a phone home screen as a PWA. There is no App Store or Google Play listing from EverAI; any app claiming to be “Candy AI” in a store is not the official product. The upside of staying out of the app stores is that Candy is not subject to Apple’s or Google’s adult-content rules and can offer explicit content without a “safe” mode. The downside is no push notifications, no offline caching and a reliance on browser payment flows. Candy accepts Visa and Mastercard, and cryptocurrency (Bitcoin, Ethereum, USDC, Litecoin and others), with card charges appearing as “Everai” on statements.

Support, cancellation and refunds

Cancellation is self-service: open My Profile, go to Settings, scroll to the bottom and choose Unsubscribe. Access continues to the end of the paid period and does not renew. The refund rules are set out in the terms rather than left to support’s discretion: outside the EU and UK, a refund can be requested within 24 hours of payment provided no more than 20 tokens have been used; EU and UK customers have a statutory 14-day right to withdraw from the initial purchase. Refunds are not given for content removed under moderation or for chargebacks. Support is by ticket through a Zendesk help centre; response times are the second most common complaint after tokens, with public reports in 2026 of waits stretching to weeks. There is no live chat or phone line.

Who it is for

Candy suits someone who wants a single service for chat, voice, images and video, is comfortable paying for media by the item, and prefers a company with a named legal entity and published refund rules over an anonymous operator. It suits less well anyone who values long-term memory, anyone who expects the monthly fee to cover the advertised features, and anyone who wants a native app. For pure chat, cheaper and better-remembering options exist; for the visual side, Candy remains the reference point that competitors are measured against.
