Why Janitor AI goes down so often
Janitor serves its free JLLM model from its own hardware and has grown far faster than that hardware. Its changelog recorded severe instability in September 2026, a character-search outage in August and a memory rollback the same month, and third-party monitors counted more than twenty incidents over the summer. Peak evening hours in the United States are the usual trouble window.
What to do while it is down
If the site loads but chats hang, the model backend is the problem, not the website. Users with a janitor+ subscription can switch the Router to a third-party model, and anyone can connect their own API key through a proxy, which bypasses JLLM entirely.
