What Janitor AI is
Janitor AI is a text-only roleplay platform run by JanitorAI, Inc. It launched in June 2023, lost its OpenAI access within weeks, and has run on its own JLLM model ever since. The draw is the library: millions of user-created characters, most of them adult, and a free tier that the company says it will always keep. There is a web app and beta iOS and Android apps, with adult content switched off by default in the mobile builds because of store rules.
Features
Chat is the whole product. Free users get unlimited chats on the standard models with roughly a 9,000-token context window, which is enough for a scene but not for a long arc. Janitor+ raises that to about five times more context, adds priority routing when the site is busy, a monthly allowance of enhanced swipes on stronger models and a router balance for third-party models. Power users bring their own API key or proxy through the official guides. Characters support personas, generation rules, branching chats and a media library for uploaded images. There is no image generation, no video and no voice, and memory is simply the context window: nothing is stored or editable across sessions.
Pricing
Janitor+ costs $12.99 a month with no annual plan, sold on the web through Stripe and on iOS through the App Store. It launched on 24 June 2026 and the free tier stayed as it was. Third-party pages quoting a $9.99 Pro or $99.99 annual tier do not match anything official and should be ignored.
Content policy
The terms require users to be 18 and the community guidelines permit adult content between adult characters while banning minors, incest, necrophilia, zoophilia and pornographic avatar images. Since 24 April 2026 users in Australia and Brazil, and since 15 June 2026 users in the UK, must pass a one-time age check through k-ID, by video selfie, ID scan or a reused Discord or Snapchat verification; Janitor receives only a pass or fail signal.
Reliability
The public status page showed 99.9% backend uptime over the last 45 days with four short outages, and peak-hour slowdowns are a regular complaint. Trustpilot sits at 2.7 out of 5 with bans and off-character replies as the main grievances.

How to cancel Janitor AI
Janitor+ bought on the web is managed through Stripe.
Log in at janitorai.com and open Settings.
Go to Billing and choose Manage Subscription; you are taken to the Stripe billing portal.
Select Cancel and confirm. Access continues to the end of the paid month.
If you subscribed in the iOS or Android app, cancel in that store’s subscription settings; app subscriptions cannot be managed on the web. Subscriptions are generally non-refundable; billing disputes go to billing@janitorai.com.
