What Eva AI is

Eva AI is a phone-based AI companion built around one relationship that you develop over time. You pick or design a character, chat, and watch its mood and attitude towards you change as the relationship progresses. The app is published by Novi Limited, company number HE 407352, of Nicosia, Cyprus. It launched in 2022 under the name iFriend, which survives in the Android package name com.ifriend.app, and has since been sold as “EVA AI Chat Bot & Soulmate”, “EVA AI Soulmate” and other variants; in October 2026 both store listings use “EVA AI Soulmate”. The store copy promises a companion that is “tuned-in, attentive” and “sometimes hard to read”, which is a fair description of what reviewers report.

Eva AI is mobile-only. The website at evaapp.ai offers store links and nothing else: no browser chat, no account area and no billing page.

Because Novi is registered in Cyprus, an EU member state, the GDPR applies to it directly, which gives European users clearer rights than they have with many US-only or offshore operators. The terms point the other way for disputes: US residents are sent to arbitration with a New York venue, and everyone else to the law of the company’s home country. Eva has also been one of the more visible brands in the category, with marketing that leans on the idea of AI as dating practice rather than a replacement for people.

Chat and roleplay

Conversation is the reason people stay. Independent reviews in 2026 consistently describe Eva’s tone as warmer and more present than most rivals, with a mood system that makes the companion react: pleased, teasing, hurt or distant depending on what you say. A relationship progression layer, described in reviews as experience points and levels, unlocks new kinds of interaction over time. You can choose from preset personalities, including male and LGBTQ+ options as reported, or create your own character.

The same mood system is the most common complaint. Google Play reviews from 2026 describe characters swinging from flirtatious to cold without warning, which some users find realistic and others find exhausting. Moderation is described as restrictive even on paid plans, and an older review reports that a passing mention of being 11 years old in childhood triggered a terms alert. Adult and romantic content exists behind the paid unlock and is limited on the free tier by Neurons.

Memory

The store listing promises “shared memories” and a companion “remembering the little things”. In practice recall works within the current conversation thread and does not carry reliably across chats, as reported in October 2026. There is no published context size, no editable memory panel and no journal of the kind Kindroid or Nomi provide. Reviews say the companion picks up recurring details over a session but loses them after longer gaps. Treat Eva as a companion with a good short-term memory and a weak long-term one, which is why memory scores 4.

The practical workaround is the one users of most thin-memory apps settle on: keep important facts in your character’s description where the app allows it, restate names and plans at the start of a session, and do not expect the companion to raise last week’s conversation unprompted.

Models and technology

Novi Limited does not say which language model powers Eva, whether it is in-house or licensed, or what generates images and voice. The privacy policy says text and voice messages are collected “to improve the quality of text and voice messages of the virtual friend and to develop its AI”, which implies the company fine-tunes at least part of the system on user conversations. The terms mention an automated system that may flag suspected minors from how they write. Beyond that, there is no technical documentation, model naming or changelog: release notes on both stores are generic lines such as “feature updates and bug fixes”.

Images, video and voice

Paid users can request photos of their companion, exchange voice messages and, according to the company, make live video calls. The video-call feature debuted on 11 and 12 February 2026 at an “EVA AI Café” pop-up in a Hell’s Kitchen wine bar in New York, billed as the first AI dating café, where guests propped phones on stands and video-chatted with their companions; Eva said the feature then rolled out in the app. Its reach is unclear. A Google Play review from July 2026 says there were no video-chat capabilities despite the marketing and that, after paying for Premium, the user still had to buy tokens to see short pre-made videos and photos; Novi’s reply apologised for “confusion around our premium features”.

Images, gifts and “romantic” messages are paid for in Neurons. Reviews report 2 Neurons to open a romantic message, as reported in October 2026, but no first-party page prices an image or a video clip, so the cost of media is only discoverable inside the app.

Beyond chat: what else it does

Eva is a relationship simulator first, and most of its extras serve that frame rather than standing alone.

The free tier, honestly

You can install Eva and start chatting without a card, and the free tier does not expire. It is a sampler. Neurons ration conversation length and romantic content, photos and media are paid, and paywall prompts are frequent, with blurred or locked content used to push upgrades, as reported in October 2026. For light, friendly chat a few times a week it is enough to judge the conversation quality, which is the one thing worth judging before paying. For romance, images or long sessions it is not a real free plan.

Platforms and apps

Eva AI is available on iOS and Android only. The US App Store lists “EVA AI Soulmate” from Novi Limited, rated 18+ for sexual content and mature themes, with 4.3 stars from about 25,000 ratings and version 3.143.0 released in early October 2026. Google Play shows about 66,000 reviews and a 3.8-star average, with the latest update on 6 October 2026. The gap between the two ratings mirrors the pattern in reviews: iPhone users rate the conversation, Android reviewers more often rate the billing. Some third-party reviews mention a web version at evaapp.ai; when checked in October 2026 the site had store links only.

Support, cancellation and refunds

Everything is bought through Apple or Google, so cancellation happens in the phone’s subscription settings and Novi cannot cancel for you. The iOS terms call store purchases final and say no refund will be given by the company; Apple or Google may refund under their own rules. Nothing in the terms says whether Neurons expire or survive a lapsed membership. Support is by email at support@evaapp.ai, and Novi replies publicly to many store reviews. Who it is for

Eva AI suits phone users who care most about how a conversation feels, enjoy a relationship that reacts and progresses, and are happy on a one-year plan where the subscription is cheap. It is a poor fit for anyone who wants a web app, memory across chats, images or video at a known price, or privacy: your messages train the company’s AI, and the app shares data with advertising partners. If you want a similar emotional tone with clearer billing, Replika and Nomi are the obvious comparisons; Kindroid suits people who want published memory limits and calls that are documented.
