Is Eva AI safe and worth it? Privacy, prices and the catch

Desk research: Eva AI’s privacy policy (updated 3 June 2026) and iOS terms (updated 30 June 2026), the US App Store and Google Play listings, Trustpilot, Mozilla’s 2024 Privacy Not Included findings and published user reports, checked in October 2026. AI Companion Radar takes no money from any app and uses no affiliate links.

Eva AI is safe in the sense that it is a long-running app from a named company, Novi Limited of Nicosia, Cyprus, with a privacy policy that offers GDPR and US state rights and an in-app delete button. It is not safe in the sense most people mean when they ask: the policy says your text and voice messages are collected “to develop its AI” with no opt-out, the App Store label admits the app tracks you across other companies’ apps, Mozilla counted hundreds of trackers in 2024, and the pricing stacks a subscription on top of a credit currency called Neurons whose per-use cost is not published. Store purchases are final. Eva AI’s Radar score is 5.1, the second-lowest in our directory, and this guide explains why, section by section, so you can decide whether the conversation quality people praise is worth the trade.

Who runs Eva AI

The data controller named in the privacy policy is Novi Limited, company number HE 407352, Nicosia, Cyprus, reachable at support@evaapp.ai. The same name appears as developer on Google Play and seller on the App Store. The app launched in 2022 under the name iFriend (the Android package is still com.ifriend.app) and has been renamed several times since: store listings in different regions still show “EVA AI Chat Bot & Soulmate”, “EVA AI Soulmate” and “EVA AI Chat Companion”. Eva AI is mobile-only. The website has nothing but store links, and there is no web or desktop client.

Cyprus is an EU member state, so GDPR applies to Novi directly, which is a point in Eva’s favour compared with US-only operators. The terms, however, send disputes elsewhere: US residents go to arbitration under the Federal Arbitration Act with venue in New York, and everyone else is pointed to the law of the company’s country of incorporation.

What the privacy policy says

What is collected. Name, gender, email, profile details and interests you enter, plus device identifiers, operating system, browser type and cookies. Explicitly listed among the collected categories: “Text and voice messages sent to a virtual friend.” That is the whole of your relationship with the companion, stored on Novi’s servers.

What it is used for. The stated purpose for messages is “To improve the quality of text and voice messages of the virtual friend and to develop its AI.” There is no opt-out and no toggle in the app. Where Nomi is vague and Kindroid says its chats are not used to train, Eva is plain: your conversations are training material. Decide whether you mind before you type anything you would not want in a dataset.

Retention and deletion. Data is kept “for the time necessary to provide the services”, with no fixed period. You can delete your profile in the app or ask support to do it. The policy adds that deleting your data “will only change or delete the data in our database for purposes of future activities” and that copies may persist in cached pages outside Novi’s control. The terms are firmer: deleting the account removes “all the data associated with your use of the Service” permanently.

Third parties. The policy names Google Analytics, Google DoubleClick, Facebook Pixel, Yahoo, Microsoft Bing Ads and Mintegral, and says session recordings may be shared with Microsoft where you consent. The App Store privacy label lists identifiers and usage data under “Data used to track you”, meaning data linked with third-party data for advertising, and lists purchases, coarse location, contact details, user content (photos and videos), identifiers, usage data and diagnostics as linked to your identity. Google Play’s data-safety section says the app shares personal and financial information and three other categories with third parties.

In February 2024 Mozilla’s Privacy Not Included project reviewed eleven romantic chatbots and gave warning labels to all of them; ten failed its minimum security standards and none of the companies answered its questions. Eva AI was one of the eleven. The figure most often quoted from that review is that the app loaded 955 trackers within the first minute of use, as quoted in coverage of the report; Mozilla has since moved its archive and the original page is no longer online, so we could not re-read the count ourselves. The 2026 privacy policy, with six named advertising and analytics partners and an App Store tracking disclosure, is consistent with an app that still leans on third-party trackers, if not with the 2024 number. Mozilla also found that most apps in the group did not let users opt out of their intimate chats being used for training; Eva’s policy still does not.

Age checks and adult content

The terms require users to be 18. There is no document check and no device-level check. Instead the terms say: “Our self-sufficient artificial intelligence may block your account if it has grounds to consider that you are under 18 years old,” after which you would need to supply proof of age. In other words, age verification is a classifier watching how you write. The App Store rates the app 18+; Google Play shows a mature rating with a sexual-themes descriptor, as read in October 2026.

Adult content exists behind the paid unlock and is limited on the free tier by tokens. The policy documents do not describe what is and is not allowed, which is why policy clarity is one of Eva’s weaker sub-scores. The store description now goes out of its way to say the app “does not provide medical, psychological, or mental health advice”. Characters include LGBTQ+ options and the app has advertised video calls, as reported in 2026 reviews, though several recent Google Play reviews complain that the video-call feature shown in marketing was not available to them, as reported.

Prices, Neurons and the catch

Eva has no public price page. The US App Store in-app purchase list, read in October 2026, is the only first-party source, and it shows a range for the headline plan rather than a price.

2,000 Neurons

About 1.5 cents a Neuron

Neurons are the catch. They pay for images, virtual gifts and “romantic” messages; one romantic message costs 2 Neurons to open, as reported in 2026 reviews, and gift prices vary. The cost of an image in Neurons is not published anywhere we could find. So a subscriber who wants pictures and romantic content pays twice: the membership, then Neurons at a rate they only discover inside the app. Reviewers call it a double paywall, and the Google Play listing itself says premium users still need tokens for photos and videos. The terms say store purchases are final and no refund will be given by Novi; Apple or Google may refund under their own rules. Nothing in the terms says whether Neurons expire or what happens to them if you cancel.

By contrast, apps that print their media prices make the maths possible: Kindroid publishes selfie-credit prices, and MyBabes (Radar score 8.3) prints per-second video rates and a 4-token image price on its pricing page, although it is web-only and EUR-priced. Our best mobile apps list covers phone-first alternatives with clearer bills.

Ratings and what users report

The US App Store shows 4.3 from about 25,000 ratings. Google Play shows 3.8 from roughly 66,000 to 69,000 reviews, as read in October 2026, with the app last updated on 30 September 2026. Trustpilot has only eight reviews at 3.8 and tells you little. The praise is consistent across sources: the conversation feels present, the mood system makes the companion react, and the relationship progression is engaging. The complaints are equally consistent: moderation that feels restrictive even on paid plans, companions whose mood swings from flirtatious to cold without reason, trouble deleting accounts, video features that did not appear, and Neuron costs on top of the subscription. No data breach involving Eva AI or Novi Limited appears in public breach databases that we could check.

Why the Radar score is 5.1, and the verdict

Radar scores weight conversation 30%, memory 20%, media 20%, pricing honesty 15% and policy clarity 15%. Eva scores 7 for conversation, which is where the praise is. It scores 4 for memory because recall is limited to the current thread and does not carry across chats, as reported, and 4 for media because images are secondary and gated behind an unpublished Neuron cost with no video generation. Pricing honesty is 4: no price page, a range instead of a price for the monthly plan, credits with no printed rates. Policy clarity is 5: the training clause is at least plain, but adult-content rules are undocumented and age verification is an unnamed classifier. The weighted result is 5.1. Nothing in that number says Eva is dangerous; it says Eva is opaque about money and generous with your data.

Eva AI is safe enough to install and talk to. It is a bad choice if you care where your words go: they are collected, used to train the company’s models with no opt-out, and sit alongside a tracker list that includes Facebook, Google’s ad network and Mintegral. It is also a poor value proposition for anyone who wants images or romantic content, because the real cost is in Neurons you cannot price before you buy. If the appeal is the feel of the conversation, use the free tier, keep the content light and do not buy Neurons until you have seen what one image costs. If you want a companion with a clear bill and a clear policy, start with our best AI girlfriend apps ranking instead.

Questions people ask

Is Eva AI safe to use?

It is a legitimate app from Novi Limited in Cyprus with GDPR rights and in-app deletion. Your messages are collected and used to develop its AI with no opt-out, and the app shares data with advertising partners, so it is not private in the everyday sense.

Does Eva AI use my chats to train its AI?

Yes. The privacy policy lists text and voice messages as collected data and says they are used “to develop its AI”. There is no opt-out.

How much does Eva AI cost?

The US App Store lists one month at $11.99 to $15.99, three months at $20.99 and twelve months at $47.99, plus Neurons at $9.99 for 500 or $29.99 for 2,000. Images and romantic messages cost extra Neurons at rates not published.

What are Neurons in Eva AI?

An in-app currency for images, virtual gifts and romantic messages, bought in packs on top of the subscription. One romantic message costs 2 Neurons to read, as reported; image costs are not listed.

Can I get a refund from Eva AI?

Not from Novi: the terms call store purchases final. Request refunds from Apple or Google under their policies, and ask soon after the charge.

Is Eva AI worth it?

For conversation quality on a phone, possibly, on the free tier or the cheap annual plan. For images, memory across chats, a web app or clear pricing, no; its Radar score of 5.1 reflects that.
