Janitor AI vs MyBabes: free text roleplay or a paid media studio?

Desk research: this comparison is based on the official sites, help centres, pricing pages, terms, public API documentation, app-store listings and documented user reports for both services, checked in September 2026. AI Companion Radar takes no money from any app and uses no affiliate links.

These two are not really rivals. Janitor AI is a free, text-only roleplay platform with a vast community library and a socket for any language model you care to plug in; MyBabes is a paid adult studio where chat sits alongside image generation, eight video engines, stories and scored roleplay games. If text is all you want, Janitor wins and costs little or nothing. If you want to see the character, only MyBabes can do it, and you will pay for it.

Chat and roleplay

Janitor AI (Radar score 6.7) exists for text roleplay and very little else. Its library runs to millions of user-written character cards across romance, fandom, horror and adult fiction, and since 31 March 2026 any chat can be published for others to read, fork from any message and continue. The free default model, JLLM, is the weak link: the changelog records a base-architecture swap on 20 April 2026, and user reports from May describe repetition loops, flatter character voices and more refusals. A JLLM V2 is promised, without a date.

What rescues Janitor is that JLLM is optional. The API settings accept any OpenAI-compatible endpoint, and the help centre carries beginner guides for DeepSeek, Gemini, Claude and OpenRouter keys. With a strong external model and a well-written card, Janitor produces longer, more literary replies than any all-in-one companion app, because you are talking to a frontier-class model with a long context.

MyBabes (Radar score 8.3) offers uncensored chat that is unlimited on both paid plans, a character builder with appearance, backstory, personality and speaking style, and a community Explore hub. The chat stays in character and copes with long scenes, but it is good, not exceptional, and prose is not what the platform is built around. Memory

Janitor’s help centre puts JLLM’s context at roughly 8,000 to 9,000 tokens, shared between the card, your persona, the Chat Memory field and recent messages. Long-term memory is that field: a text box you keep up to date yourself, ideally by prompting the model for a summary every so often. Janitor+ raises context about five times. An experimental automatic summary feature was switched on for everyone by mistake between 18 and 20 August 2026 and, as reported, damaged context in around 15,000 chats before it was rolled back.

MyBabes includes long-term memory on paid plans with nothing to configure: a per-character memory list you can review, pin or delete, plus an “about you” profile. Memory is not token-gated on the Normal models, and the Plus model class is described on the pricing page as having ten times the memory. It is not perfect (very long histories still lose old detail, and there is no visual memory map of the kind Kindroid offers). Winner: MyBabes, for memory that works without effort. The footnote is that a Janitor user on an external model with a 100,000-token context sees far more of the raw conversation; they just have to set that up themselves.

Models and technology

Janitor gives you three routes. JLLM is free and in-house, with an undisclosed base architecture. Your own API key or proxy is also free on Janitor’s side, with the bill going to the provider. The janitor+ Router, launched on 30 July 2026 for subscribers, puts third-party models (around 70 by third-party count, including Claude, GPT, Gemini, DeepSeek and Grok) inside the site with per-token prices shown before you choose, a 10% discount on selected models and $5 of launch credit. It is web only for now.

MyBabes has a fixed menu. Chat models come in two classes, Normal and Plus; the marketing does not name them, though the public API documentation lists Qwen 3, Gemma 4 and Llama families. You cannot bring your own key. Where MyBabes is unusually open is on media: every video engine is named, and the image generator is described as running on Krea2-based and SDXL-based lines.

Winner: Janitor AI. Among hosted apps, few are as flexible about language models. The price is set-up: finding a provider, creating a key, pasting an endpoint, choosing a prompt preset and troubleshooting the errors that follow. MyBabes asks for none of that, a real advantage for people who do not want a hobby, but it does not change who wins on capability.

Images, video and voice

Janitor generates no images, no video and no speech. The Janitor+ announcement names voice and image as future plans the subscription is meant to fund, with no dates. Character art is whatever the card’s creator uploaded.

MyBabes is built around media. Images cost 4 tokens on Premium (2 on Ultra), go up to 2K, and come in more than fifteen named styles with inpainting and a Visual Identity Anchor that keeps a character’s face stable across pictures and clips. Video is image-to-video on eight engines: the platform’s own Wan 2.2 fine-tune (“Mybabes AI NSFW”, from 3 tokens a second), Wan 2.7, Wan 3.0 and 3.0 Pro (up to 30 seconds and 4K), and Seedance 2.0, 2.0 Mini, 2.0 Fast and 2.5. Characters have voices and can send voice messages. Winner: MyBabes, by walkover. Its gap is live voice calls, which it does not have; for that, look at our voice and calls ranking.

Special features

Janitor’s extras serve writers. Scripts is a free lorebook framework with keyword triggers, weighted random events, state engines and version control. Public chats turn a good scene into something others can branch from. There is no native group chat and no creator revenue of any kind.

MyBabes’s extras are formats in their own right. Story Creator (in beta) is a drag-and-drop studio for episodic series built from images, clips, dialogue and voiceover, published free or behind a token gate. Adventures turn a character into a winnable game: the creator sets a target, good and bad moves, a difficulty and a prize, and an AI referee scores each message. There are also two interactive games, events with token prize pools, a Reels feed and a creator programme paying a 35% lifetime share. Winner: MyBabes, with a caveat: Adventures and Stories are new, and the catalogues are small (a few dozen published Adventures), whereas everything Janitor offers is backed by an enormous body of user content.

Free tier

Janitor’s free tier is the product. Unlimited JLLM chat, the whole library, character creation, Scripts, public chats and your own API keys, with no card and no daily cap. The costs are peak-hour queues and the current quality of JLLM.

MyBabes’s free tier needs no card either and refreshes with daily token claims, but chat on the Normal models costs 0.2 tokens a message and images 4 tokens each, so a day’s allowance goes quickly and video is out of reach in any quantity. Pricing

Janitor’s only plan is Janitor+ at $12.99 a month: five times the JLLM context, priority replies, a monthly allowance of swipes on frontier models, a badge and Router access. No trial, no annual plan, and fees and Router credits are non-refundable except where law requires. MyBabes Premium is €14.99 a month or €9.99 a month on the three-month plan (€29.97 up front); Ultra is €34.99, or €23.33 a month on three months. Premium includes 200 tokens plus ten daily claims (up to 500 a month), Ultra 600 (up to 900). Token packs run from 100 for €9.99 to 1,200 for €54.99 and never expire. At mid-September 2026 rates, €14.99 is about $17.30 and €34.99 about $40.40.

What a proxy costs. The usual cheap route is a DeepSeek key. On DeepSeek’s own price list, checked in September 2026, the cheaper Flash model costs $0.15 to $0.30 per million input tokens (a fraction of a cent when the prompt is cached) and $0.60 to $1.20 per million output tokens, depending on time of day. Roleplay resends the conversation with each message, so input dominates the bill.

Light user (about 30 messages a day, 8,000 tokens of context): roughly 7 million input tokens a month, which is under $3 on Flash at the worst rates and typically under $1 with caching. Janitor total: $0 to $3. MyBabes equivalent: free tier if you are patient, otherwise Premium at €9.99 to €14.99, which also buys around 125 images or 16 to 33 short clips.

Heavy user (about 150 long messages a day, 30,000 tokens of context): roughly 135 million input tokens a month. On Flash that is about $5 with good caching and $20 to $40 without; on a frontier-class model, user-reported spend runs from $15 to $50 a month and can go higher. Add $12.99 if you prefer the Router to your own key. On MyBabes, 4,500 messages a month on the Plus models would cost 900 tokens on Premium, more than the plan’s allowance, so a heavy text user belongs on Ultra at €34.99 (€23.33 on three months), where Plus chat is unlimited.

Winner: Janitor AI, clearly, for anyone comparing text for text. MyBabes’s case is different: its price includes media Janitor cannot supply at any price, and every image and per-second video cost is printed on the pricing page before you spend. Two cautions on that page: prices are in euros only, and each plan is dressed as a timed discount with a countdown. Treat the displayed price as the normal price. Refunds are limited to 24 hours and fewer than 20 tokens used.

Content policy, age checks and safety

Both are 18+ platforms that allow adult content between adult characters and ban anything involving minors. MyBabes publishes a Blocked Content Policy (minors, deepfakes of real people, extreme violence, hate, illegal acts) and a Model Verification Policy stating that all characters are synthetic and public ones are reviewed to look clearly adult. Its privacy notice is written for EU and UK GDPR. User age, however, is self-declared, and as of September 2026 we found no document or selfie check, which users in the UK and Australia should expect to change.

Janitor requires k-ID age assurance for users in Australia and Brazil (from 24 April 2026) and the UK (from 15 June 2026), by facial estimation, ID scan or AgeKey, and says it receives only a yes or no. Its store apps follow stricter content rules than the website. One risk is specific to Janitor: on a proxy, your chats go to the provider you chose, and a leaked API key is your problem. Neither service has a reported data breach. Winner: draw. MyBabes is clearer about what content is blocked; Janitor is ahead on age assurance.

Apps and platforms

Janitor has web, iOS and Android. “Janitor: Interactive Stories” has been on the App Store (18+) and Google Play (Mature 17+, more than a million installs) since a public beta on 7 February 2026, with Janitor+ sold in-app. NSFW must be enabled on the website first. Reliability is the blot: StatusGator logged 22 Janitor outages in the four months to mid-September 2026, most under half an hour, on top of peak-hour queues.

MyBabes is browser only. It can be pinned to a phone’s home screen, but the generators and the story canvas are plainly designed for a desktop, and there is no store listing, store-managed billing or store review history. Is MyBabes better than Janitor AI?

Only if you want media. MyBabes generates images and video and has built-in memory, stories and games; Janitor is free, has a far larger character library and, with a good external model, writes better text.

Can Janitor AI generate images or video?

No. Janitor AI is text only as of September 2026. The company has named voice and image as future possibilities without giving dates.

How much does a Janitor AI proxy cost per month?
