Janitor AI alternatives in 2026: 7 apps ranked, with and without images

Janitor AI is a text-only roleplay platform, and a good one: it is free, its community has built an enormous library of characters, and it lets you bring your own model through a proxy. What it does not do is generate images or video. This ranking is for Janitor users who have decided they want media, and it is ordered by how well each platform serves that specific need, not by overall quality.

Why people leave Janitor AI

• Outages and slowdowns. “Janitor AI not working” is a perennial search, and reviewers have reported uptime figures in the region of 78%. Peak-hour queues are common.

• The proxy problem. The free in-house JLLM model is limited, with a small context window and patchy memory. Getting good output means connecting an external API key (OpenAI, DeepSeek and others), which is fiddly to set up and costs a further $15 to $50 a month paid to a third party.

• No media at all. No image generation, no video, no voice. Images in chat are limited to embedding an existing picture by URL.

• Moderation uncertainty. Unclear content rules and, more recently, ID verification for adult content.

• No native mobile app.

What you lose by leaving

Be clear-eyed about this. Janitor’s character library is larger and stranger than anything on the platforms below, and it is free. Its bring-your-own-model approach means you can run a frontier model with a long context, which none of the all-in-one platforms match for pure text quality. And a paid tier of around $9.99 exists if you want to support it. If you move, you are trading text depth and choice for visuals and a more predictable service.

The most polished of the group and the strongest on a phone. Candy pairs uncensored chat with good image generation, voice messages and calls, and “Live Action” video clips of up to 120 seconds. It accepts crypto and bills discreetly. Premium is around €13.99 a month, with a three-month rate of about €8.99 and an annual promotion around €3.99 a month, but images, voice and video all consume tokens bought on top, and users regularly report that real spend outruns the sticker price. The chat itself is the weak point: repetitive lines and a limited free trial rather than a free tier. Ranked second because a Janitor user will notice the drop in conversation quality.

3. OurDream AI

The closest to Janitor in spirit. OurDream’s DeepSeek-V3-based chat and strong memory make it the best roleplay experience on this list, and it adds voice calling, images and short video. It costs $19.99 a month or $119.88 a year ($9.99 a month), with 1,000 DreamCoins a month for media. It ranks third rather than first only because this list is about images and video: OurDream’s video is inconsistent and burns coins quickly, and the free tier is chat-only. 4. GirlfriendGPT

A chat-first companion with an integrated NSFW image generator that renders pictures of your character inside the chat window, plus voice chat. It is a reasonable middle ground for someone who wants occasional images without a media-heavy platform. We could not confirm video generation on its homepage, so treat any claims about video with caution.

5. SpicyChat

The most Janitor-like alternative: free core features, community-created characters and a chat-first design. Its image support is basic by design: you can generate a character avatar from a prompt on any tier, and “Conversation Images” that depict what is happening in the chat are reserved for the paid tiers, and on the lower paid tier only for selected characters. If you want a free Janitor replacement and can live with modest visuals, this is the one.

6. CrushOn

Another chat-first platform with a large community character base. CrushOn has launched in-chat NSFW image generation, but it was introduced as a beta for internal testing and remains the experimental part of the product. The images are generated from conversation context, which is a nice idea, but it is not yet a reason to choose CrushOn over the platforms above if images are your priority.
